NAIDOC Week 2016: community event in Harmony Square – Dandenong

Come along to a fun-filled community and Council event to celebrate NAIDOC Week in the City of Greater Dandenong.

Activities will include an official opening by Mayor, Heang Tak, alongside a local community Elder and also include three young Aboriginal people who’ll be acting as MCs.

Performances by an Indigenous Hip Hop group and Jindi Worabak Dancers, broadcasting live on the big screen, as well as crowd participation in the workshops and other fun activities.

When:  Monday, 4 July 2016, 1:30 – 3:30 PM

Aboriginal women’s group Dandenong: healthy relationships group

The Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency is running women’s groups with a focus on healthy relationships. The groups are being run in Dandenong every Tuesday.

When: every Tuesday, except school holidays from 5:30 – 7:30 PM
Where:  Memorial Hall (signage says Senior Citizens Centre)

• Women’s Yarning Circle
• Cultural Well Being
• Group activities
• Craft activities for children

Cr Angela Long ICACC Co Chair for further two years

At the quarterly ICACC Local Government Liaison Group meeting held at Bass Coast Shire on 12 February 2015 Cr Angela Long was re-elected unopposed as Co-chair of the committee. The appointment is for a further 2-year term.

Cr Long is the ICACC Councillor Representative from the City of Greater Dandenong and has been an active member of ICACC for nearly 18 years and Co-chair of the Local Government Liaison Group for the past six years.

With over 30 years’ experience working with Indigenous people, Cr Long is also patron and public officer of the Bunjil Aboriginal Dance Group, is involved in a number of charity organisations both within and outside the City of Greater Dandenong where she resides, and she’s particularly interested in her work with the Dandenong and District Aborigines Cooperative.
